Testimonials

In over a decade, Dr. Jon Hynes is the only teacher I will confidently say has provided exactly what I look for in a piano lesson. He is very dedicated to his work. He pushes me to learn something new and get better every single lesson. Over the years we’ve created a friendship-like bond, so it never feels like a burden to meet. Just two guys who are both passionate about music. I always enjoy our lessons, and nothing could take me from his professional teaching and warm presence. Dr. Hynes, thank you!

Piano is a great escape from how stressful life is, and Dr. Jon Hynes is a brilliant teacher to have. He has been my teacher for four years, and I have never felt such a strong passion for an activity. Dr. Hynes amalgamates his skill, talent, anecdotes, and experiences to create a wonderful environment for a student of any level!

I received piano lessons as a gift from my wife on my 35th birthday. She gave it because I had expressed regret over giving up piano as a child. I thought it was a one-year gift. I’m on year three now! I look forward to many more. Jon is like a friend to me. I learn every week because his teaching style is different, more like sharing. I never had a piano teacher like him.

–D.S. (Man, age 38)

I enjoy every minute of my piano lessons with Dr. Hynes! He teaches at my speed of learning, and is very patient with me. If I’m not understanding something, he finds different ways to explain it. I recommend him to anyone and everyone interested in learning piano, no matter the level of experience or age.

–L.T. (Woman, age 32)

I’ve spent over six years with Dr. Hynes, and I’m constantly learning new things. Even beyond just becoming a better piano player, I always walk away from my lessons with a deeper understanding of the pieces I’m learning. Dr. Hynes is so intentional as a teacher, and he’s not afraid to push someone when he sees their potential. I wouldn’t be able to find a better teacher anywhere else.

–S.T. (Girl, age 17)

I greatly enjoy taking lessons from Dr. Hynes. He has shared so much knowledge and history about the pieces and composers I’ve learned to play. He’s like a theory, history, and technique book all wrapped into one.

–S.L. (Girl, age 17)

I like piano lessons with Dr. Hynes because every lesson teaches me something fun and new.

–A.L (Girl, age 9)

I’ve only been taking lessons with Dr. Hynes for a little over a year, but I have learned and improved so much in my playing technique, theory, and artistry.

–V.L. (Girl, age 14)

I’ve been with Dr. Hynes for almost 10 years. I started with him in person in Missouri. Since moving to California, we now keep up the tradition with live lessons over the internet. He holds regular recitals for his students, which I greatly enjoy. Dr. Hynes has coached and motivated me and my two siblings to achieve straight Superior Ratings in all our years of participating in the NFMC Junior  Festival.

–J.M.(Male, age 18)

My piano skills have been improving for over eight years with Dr. Hynes. From learning from him in person with him, to learning over the internet, he has been able to guide me through pieces that have seemed too daunting to be possible. With his incredible skill, I have been able to earn straight Superiors on my Festival pieces.

–C.M. (Boy, age 15)

I have known Jon for approximately 40 years, as we were childhood neighbors in Arkansas. I was his first piano student when he was 9 years old! From a very young age it was obvious Jon was born with an incredible gift of music. What makes Jon so unique among pianists of his caliber is that he is also an extremely talented teacher. Jon not only can recite the musical history of each piece that we play, but he also conveys music theory in an understandable way. As a full-time working professional with a family, I had let my love for piano go by the wayside just to keep up with the speed of life. Now, after several decades of no lessons since college, I’ve been able to reunite with two friends: Jon and piano.

–L.L. (Woman, age 52)

Dr. Jon Hynes has brought back to me what I thought was lost in my ability to play the piano. Although I had years of experience earlier in life, it had been a long while since I had played, and I felt I could not remember a thing. I wanted to be able to play anything from Classical to Jazz, Rock and Roll, to contemporary Christian music. As soon as I met him, I knew this teacher was special. He is extremely educated. His personality is calm and peaceful. The atmosphere beautiful and relaxing. After telling him my goals, he placed a piece in front of me and as I started to play, I realized this teacher is the first teacher I had ever had that did not make me feel afraid. As time went by, his teaching style made my mistakes feel like accomplishments that just needed a little work. He praises each new piece I learn. Dr. Hynes is making my journey toward being able to play anything I want, in my church and in any setting, an actual possibility. I love learning from Dr. Hynes. He makes every new technique so easy to understand, remember, and apply to my playing. As a student you will learn from Dr. Hynes far beyond what you thought possible and you will learn from a master pianist.
